Science Binder Setup Mr. Fuller-Room 312

What is it? Your science binder will be a place to keep all of your work. It will help you be organized and better prepared to learn. It will help you, and me, keep track of your learning. It is something you MUST have in class everyday. You will receive periodic grades based on your binder (more on that later)

What should I have to get started? One 1 ½ to 2 inch binder 5 section tab dividers One spiral notebook One composition notebook with holes for binder Loose leaf paper

Setup tabs You should put the following labels on your five tabs -Classwork -Labs/Projects -graded work -Homework -Handouts

What goes in each section? -Classwork: analysis questions from the book, study guides, etc. -Labs/Projects-lab data and analysis, group or individual project work, etc -graded work-graded and returned work -Homework-completed assignments ready to turn in-returned work -handouts-any readings, handouts, etc given during science class.

Science journal Your science journal will ONLY be used for daily reflection at the end of each class. There will periodically be focused reflection questions that need to be answered as well. You should reflect on: -what did I learn today? -how does this connect to other things I have learned? -What questions do I have? -What do I still wonder about?

Science notebook You will use your science notebook daily to do the following: -take notes during class(lectures, from readings, etc) -write down homework assignments -write down vocabulary definitions and assignments related to vocabulary (Separate section-which we will label)

assessment-Rubric At least twice a quarter I will collect and assess your binder. This will count towards an organization grade. You should have your binder ready to be collected AT ALL TIMES. Please keep a copy of the rubric I give you in your handouts section. PLEASE use the rubric to make sure your binder is ALWAYS complete and ready to be turned in. THERE WILL BE NO ADVANCED NOTICE WHEN I WILL CHECK!!!! BE READY AT ALL TIMES!

Classroom privileges-things you’d like to earn through your hard work and good behavior What special privileges would you like to earn in my classroom? Homework-think of AT LEAST three privileges you would like to earn-write them in your science notebook For example: Homework pass Homework deadline extension Choose the table your team gets to sit at Wear a hat in class

Let’s Get Started! At the beginning of class tomorrow, you need to have a cover page (on a sheet of 8 ½ x 11 in. paper) that includes: Title: My Science Binder Your first and last name Your grade and homeroom The period you have science You may decorate or personalize the cover page as much as you like, but it MUST contain the information above.

Example cover page Your Homework is to complete the cover page by Monday
