When you join us Ask them why we have chosen this image as a representation of starting out at university. As Maths and English are the core subjects we are going to give you a little example. It’s about talking, sharing, thinking creatively anddivergently. Getting away from seeing learning as more than just answering questions

What does Maths look like in the School of Education? Number grid – if I add Low threshold ; high challenge – some might say they are all even numbers – others might add up the rows and others might add up

In pairs count backwards from 99 in steps of four Ping pong In pairs count backwards from 99 in steps of four Start at 99 and count back in 4s ‘pinging’ from one person to the next Bring our strategies, patterns and generalisations that are noticed e.g. I will never say an even number

What does English look like in the School of Education? We will talk to you about subject knowledge and the importance of children’s literature. Of course it is not enough to know children’s books – it is what we do with our knowledge and understanding

What is special about studying with us? Come and find out at 2.30 pm!

The information in this presentation was believed accurate and up to date at the time of delivery. We may however make changes from time to time to advertised courses or modules (or occasionally discontinue them), for example as a result of the way in which we continually seek to improve our academic provision and take on board feedback from students and other stakeholders, or to take account of changed circumstances. For full details of when we might make changes, and how we will try to minimise any impact on people affected by them, please check our Key Facts Document at http://www.herts.ac.uk/apply.
