What will I study? On the BEd Primary Education course you will enhance your knowledge of all National Curriculum subjects plus RE The course is underpinned by a ‘developing professional practice’ course where the emphasis is about how children learn and the skills required to be a good teacher You will undertake school-based training in each year of the course. Currently students spend a minimum of 24 weeks in school At the end of the course, you will be qualified to teach the 3 – 11 year age range

School-based training You will: be allocated schools within our partnership area have assessed placements every year have opportunities for enrichment and extension (non-assessed) develop your personal and professional learning in a supportive environment Elaborate on the process and what they will get from it. Incremental time in school

Your time in school What are you most looking forward to in school? What do you think you do well? What reservations might you have? Drawing out their initial views and reassuring them that we will draw out these reservations before they go into school in order for them to feel comfortable. It’s alright to feel anxious or concerned

Applications Apply through UCAS (open now) On application for BEd Primary teaching, register to take the professional skills tests in literacy and numeracy Practice tests are available Take and pass them to meet this entry requirement Google ‘Professional Skills Tests’ Go through the process – there are also skills test support sessions

Entry requirements GCSE English language, mathematics and science Already achieved - Grade C or above (no equivalencies accepted) To take in 2017 - Grade 4 or above 112 UCAS points At least 5 days school observation experience in a state primary school to complete set tasks (available from www.herts.ac.uk) Pass Professional Skills tests in literacy and numeracy All suitable applicants are interviewed. Entry is also subject to completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) barred list and criminal records check; a Declaration of Disqualification by Association; and required to respond to targeted and relevant health questions (NCTL-00097-2015)
