Figure out your pace

Put your compass and pacing to the test COMPASS AND PACING COURSE Web site www.scoutorama.com/orienteer_game/ this site makes up courses for you up to 50 sides with random distances TRIANGLE (Same Direction) Bearing Azimuth Distance 1. N-0-E 0 200’ 2. S-60-E 120 200’ 3. S-60-W 240 200’ SQUARE 1. N-0-E 0 300’ 2. N-90-E 90 200’ 3. S-0-W 180 300’ 4. N-90-W 270 200’

Games to play with your compass Blind Guide: Two scouts both with compasses. One scout puts a paper grocery bag over his head he can only look down to see his compass the other scout guides him thru a course or to a certain point by giving him compass bearings to follow. Solve the word: Hang the letters of the alphabet in a circle. Give the scout a bearing for each letter in the word on a piece of paper and let them solve for the letters and figure out the word. Find the prize: Make a compass course with prizes, candy, food or a gold spray painted rock at the end of each leg. Determine the missing leg: Make up a 3 sided compass course, but only give scouts 2 of the sides and let them give you the bearing and distance back to the starting point. See how close they come to what it should be. Find a direction: On index cards write North, South, East, West and could also add NE, SE, SW, NW if you want. Shuffle the cards, each boy picks a card, then the leader pick a direction for north and the boys need to stand in the correct spots.
