Presentation transcript:

Stephen King Stephen Edwin King (born on September 21, 1947) is an American author of horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, science fiction, and fantasy.

Books King has published 54 novels, and six non-fiction books. He has written nearly 200 short stories, most of which have been collected in book collections.

Family When King was two years old, his father left the family under the pretense of "going to buy a pack of cigarettes", leaving his mother to raise King and his adopted older brother, David, by herself.

Childhood When his father left, he and his family moved to De Pere, Wisconsin, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Stratford, Connecticut. When King was eleven, the family returned to Durham, Maine, where Ruth King cared for her parents until their deaths. She then became a caregiver in a local residential facility for the mentally challenged. King was raised Methodist and remains religious as an adult.

Studies When he was a kid he studied in the Durham Elementary School and in Lisbon Falls High School. In 1966, he studied English in the University of Maine, in Orono. After finishing University, he taught English in Hampden Academy.

Early Inspirations As a child, King apparently witnessed one of his friends being struck and killed by a train, though he has no memory of the event. Some commentators have suggested that this event may have psychologically inspired some of King's darker works.

Accident An accident left him injuries and made him nearly lost a leg and later he thought about retiring (stop writing books) He was struck by a minivan while walking in North Lovell, Maine He was walking south on the shoulder of a road in North Lovell when a motorist approaching from behind lost control of his Dodge Caravan, they said a dog in the van distracted the driver. His book Misery is based on the accident.

Now He is 67 years old and has three sons: Naomi, Joe and Owen King.
