2 About the author Born: September 21, 1947 in Portland, Maine
An American author of horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, science fiction, and fantasy Considered one of the best-selling authors of all time King made his first professional short story sale ("The Glass Floor") to  Startling Mystery Stories in 1967 King continued to sell stories to men's magazines. Many of these were later gathered into the Night Shift collection or appeared in other anthologies In the fall of 1971, Stephen began teaching high school English classes at Hampden Academy, the public high school in Hampden, Maine. Writing in the evenings and on the weekends, he continued to produce short stories and to work on novels.

In the spring of 1973, Doubleday & Co. accepted the novel Carrie for publication, which was published in 1974 He has since written more than 50 novels and more than 200 short stories, including some under the pen name Richard Bachman Several of his novels and short stories have been made into movies or are the basis for television shows, such as The Shawshank Redemption, The Shining, IT, The Mist, Thinner, Cujo, The Green Mile, Pet Cemetery, Carrie, Stand by Me, and many more King himself has also appeared in his movies and on television, including The Simpsons, Sons of Anarchy, and Celebrity Jeopardy, along with many others

4 The Body Written as a novella – a short novel or a long short story
Published in 1982 The story takes place during the summer of 1960 in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine Adapted as the movie Stand by Me – one of King’s self- proclaimed favorite adaptations (along with The Mist and The Shawshank Redemption) The story is told in the first-person point of view from an adult Gordon Lachance – who recounts what happened to him when he was 12
