Stakeholders’ Workshop: Consultancy to Identify Forest Areas in Communal Areas

FOREST CONSERVATION STRATEGY It came about as a recommendation from the 2012 Independent Evaluation of the Tropical forest conservation fund (TFCF) and Forest Conservation Botswana (FCB) This was to be a guiding tool to the Board in consideration of projects to fund It was developed in November 2013 and it was adopted by the Board of Directors in January 2014

CONSERVATION STRATEGY PRIORITY AREAS FOREST RESOURCE MANAGEMENT FOREST RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN FOREST RESERVES COMMUNITY BASED NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT(CBNRM) FOR FOREST APPRECIATION AND CONSERVATION

IDENTIFICATION OF FOREST AREAS CONSULTANCY The Forest Conservation Strategy report indicated that there was no information on forest areas in communal areas in Botswana, this led to this consultancy.

OBJECTIVES OF THE CONSULTANCY To identify forest areas by geographical location (district, ecological zone etc) in the communal areas in Central, North and North-Western Botswana. To prioritize the identified forest areas in terms of species composition, structure and density, biodiversity and potential for supporting livelihoods of communities living near those areas. To specify any known threats to the identified forests and possible mitigation approaches to arrest the threats. To prescribe conservation measures to protect and/or conserve the identified forests.
