Unit 5 Grammar (1) Be going to = Will (將要)

“Be” verb includes(包括) “am, is, are” am going to Be going to are going to is going to When the person is “I”, we use “am going to” - I am going to buy a book tomorrow. When the people are “you, they, we, or many people”, we use “are going to” - They are going to watch a movie later.

He is going to play basketball tomorrow. When the subject(主詞) is “He, She, It, or a single person”, we use “is going to”. Ex: He is going to play basketball tomorrow. She is going to take a trip next week. It is going to rain on Wednesday. The student is going to have a test one hour later. **ask the students to read the examples to get more familiar with the phrase.**

…is not going to… ….are not going to…. Negative(否定) form of “be going to” …am not going to…. …is not going to… ….are not going to….

There is(有) + be going to(將要) = There is going to be (將要有) + 單數 Make a question: Is there going to be.....?

= What is the weather like? --------------- If we want to know the current(目前的) weather, we ask: How is the weather? = What is the weather like? --------------- To ask about the weather in the near future, we add “be going to” in the question: What is the weather going to be like tomorrow?

Use “There is going to be” to tell weather: What’s the weather going to be like tomorrow? (storm) There is going to be a storm tomorrow. 2. What’s going to happen if it rains for another day? (flood) There is going to be a flood if it rains for another day. 3. What’s the weather going to be like on Friday? (hurricane) There is going to be a hurricane on Friday.

Short answers to “Is there going to be” questions: Ex: Is there going to be a new TV for the living room? Yes, there is. No, there isn’t.

**Ask the students to write a sentence or a question according to the instructions(指示): Use: am going to - or – Am I going to...? is going to - or - Is ____ going to...? are going to - or - Are ____ going to...? There is going to be – or – Is there going to be ....?

There is going to be a sandstorm tomorrow. Make a sentence. Time: tomorrow sandstorm What’s going to happen? There……. There is going to be a sandstorm tomorrow.

Is there going to be a drought next year? Make a question. Time: next year They have very little(少量) rain this year. And they are going to have even less rain next year. The poor hungry children ask their mothers: drought Is there going to be a drought next year?

There is(有) + 單數 ( a book, a …) 不可數 (water, bread etc.) Therefore(所以): There is going to be(將有) + 單數 不可數 **ask individuals to make sentences.**

There are(有) + 多數 (books, dogs, etc.) Ex: There are 5 birds in the tree. Therefore: There are going to be(將有) +多數 **ask individuals to make sentences**
