UNIT 1 Matter Day 9 Tuesday, September 12, 2017 Properties and Changes of Matter 8th Grade Science

September 12, 2017 Turn in the “properties and changes” worksheet NOW September 12, 2017 Turn in the “properties and changes” worksheet NOW. Put it in the box on the front lab table.

Sept. 12, 2017 Plan for today: 1. Turn in homework 2. Review Physical and Chemical Changes and properties: -Review “Properties and Changes” worksheet (warm-up review) -Review scavenger hunt 3. ”SCOOT” activity and discussion 4. Wrap-up

Essential Question How are chemical changes different from physical changes?

Homework: Flash card 12-17 due tomorrow. Vocab. Sheet due tomorrow. CFA tomorrow over physical and chemical properties and physical and chemical changes. Study flash cards, science starters, labs, etc.

CFA minimum score requirement The minimum score to show proficiency (that you know the content pretty well) is 80%. If you score 80% or higher on the CFA, you have met the minimum requirement for this section on matter. If you score below 80%, you will be required to take a re-quiz on Friday. You will also be required to sit through some remediation so I can review the material with you one more time. If you scored 80% or higher and would like to re-quiz, you can. But you will have to sit through the remediation session with the people who scored below 80%. The higher of the 2 grades will go in the gradebook. Therefore, it would be a really good idea to study over the specific physical and chemical properties we have discussed, as well as what makes physical changes different from chemical changes.

Let’s review the “properties and changes” worksheet.

Let’s see how you did on the properties scavenger hunt.

Lets’ review physical vs Lets’ review physical vs. chemical changes with an activity called “Scoot!” There are cards taped to each desk around the room. Each of you will have an answer sheet to complete. You will read the card at your seat and determine if it is describing a physical or chemical change (write P or C on your answer sheet). Some cards are asking for a vocab. term or a simple calculation. You will have no more than 30 seconds at each seat before you have to scoot. When I say, “Scoot”, you must scoot to the next seat for the next question. Be ready to SCOOT. You must sit down each time you scoot.

Wrap-up: Answer the E.Q. on page 11.
