Why do we celebrate x-mas? The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine (he was the first Christian Roman Emperor). A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on the 25th December. Since then a lot of people around the world (Christians) have been celebrating Christmas on that day.

Here in England the tradition is to put Christmas trees around our house and decorate the house with tinsel and baubles. When we were kids we used to have stockings and our parents placed small gifts in them. When we get up on xmas day we open our presents and we play with them. Small children believe that their presents come from Santa/ Father Christmas. A few days before Christmas, people give Christmas cards to their family and friends.

Christmas dinner is the best and biggest meal of the year, we tend to eat roast birds(turkey, chicken, pheasants)Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and vegetables. For dessert, most people will eat Christmas pudding and mince pies. Xmas dinner
