SAU “PEOPLE & TECHNOLOGIES” Institute of Humanities, Social Sciences and Technologies Цель The establishment of the strategic academic unit "People and Technologies" aims to concentrate the world's best social, humanitarian and engineering practices for training a new generation of engineers able to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems with regard to the social, ethical, environmental and economic context Description of key areas of focus of the SAU, plans for its establishment/development: Training unique specialists capable of offering efficient and innovative solutions to global social problems Development of methods to assess the impact of technological innovations on the improvement of the quality of life Development of a complex of socio-psychological, physical, engineering and information technology solutions to enhance integration of senior citizens and people with disabilities (people with special needs) into the society 5

Block of modernized educational programs SAU “PEOPLE & TECHNOLOGIES” Institute of Humanities, Social Sciences and Technologies EDUCATION IHSST 2016 SAU 2020 Faculty Development New Educational technologies Research Unique Master’s programs “Resource Management”, “Rehabilitation engineering & Assistive technologies” Block of modernized educational programs Educational programs for technical students Social-humanitarian Economic and management Engineering entrepreneurship 6 This slide represents the process of education development of the Strategic Academic unit. The left-hand side gives the current state of the Institute, the right hand side reflects the state by the year 2020. We are going to modernize the educational process and we are sure that we have all the potentials to get great results. First, we have implemented the key educational programs for technical students that include Social–humanitarian, Economic and management, and entrepreneurial learning of future engineers. Second, many researchers and members of academic staff of the institute (as well as foreign scientists) are actively involved into academic activities. Also we are going to enhance their competences, to develop our academic staff and researchers, to invite more foreign specialist for more rapid development of educational process. Third, now we are developing and implementing into academic process new educational technologies. Such as problem-oriented and project learning, which means that graduate students are involved in the implementation of real projects aimed at solving social problems. Moreover we are going to implement gamification technologies in education, this process we have already started. And forth, the research that aims to assess the influence of the consequences and perspectives of engineering activities on people’s quality of life and well-being are carried out. The research is done in partnership with European universities and with the State financial support. Research plays a great role in education. By the year 2020, we plan to achieve next results in this sphere: Implement the unique Master’s program “Resource management” forming special socio-technical and practice-oriented engineering competences for creating social-oriented production. The program will be implemented by means of integration of academic and scientific activities of SAU. We plan to modernize the current educational programs towards the reinforcement of integration of technical and socio-humanitarian engineering education.  Now I would like to turn to research.

Socio-technical solutions for people with special needs SAU “PEOPLE & TECHNOLOGIES” Institute of Humanities, Social Sciences and Technologies RESEARCH IHSST 2016 SAU 2020 MAIN AREA OF RESEARCH Well-being Academic Staff Students Engineers Research Equipment Infrastructure Research center “People and Technologies” Socio-technical solutions for people with special needs Service of engineering projects support Collaborative platform 7 Have a look at the screen; you can see the process of research development of SAU. As I have already said, the left-hand side gives the current state of the Institute; the right hand side reflects the state by the year 2020. Today the Institute takes part in several significant socio-engineering projects that is the basis for further development of the Strategic Academic unit in this area. The main direction of it is connected with research well-being. By the year 2020, we plan to: We plan to become a world recognized center for carrying out research and development of socio-technical solutions for people with special needs; We plan to develop the service of engineering project support aimed at satisfying urgent social needs. And the first steps have been already done. What will help us to reach these results? First, we are going to create collaborative platform as a communication tool aimed at stepping up efforts to design new socially-oriented technologies and to raise additional funds for research and development. Second, we plan to involve to this process our colleagues from technical institutes and engineers, as well as students and young researchers, all of them will be an active driving force to realize of our ideas. We are going to develop of our base of equipment and the competences of our specialists. And finally, we are going to establish a research center “People and technologies”. In general we have academic and scientific staff for this and the minimum of necessary equipment and infrastructure. Thus, concentrating efforts on the Education and Research, it is possible to talk about gaining significant results in SAU development by 2020.

CONTRIBUTION TO TPU ADVANCEMENT by the year 2020 NEW GENERATION OF SOCIALY RESPONSIBLE ENGINEERS Education Introduction of Master Programs “Resource Management” , “Rehabilitation engineering & Assistive technologies” It will allow to train the world level socially responsible engineers with a unique set of humanitarian competences. They will be capable of ensuring the sustainable development of society and improving the quality of life Research Complex of social-humanitarian, engineering and information technologies for prevention of social exclusion and social rejection of people with special needs SAU “PEOPLE and TECHNOLOGIES” Institute of Humanities, Social Sciences and Technologies 8 The Strategic Academic Unit “People and Technologies” being a leader of the Institute of Humanities, Social Sciences and Technologies (IHSST) plays a key role in training engineers with broad practice-oriented socio-humanitarian knowledge on the one hand and unique competencies in the field of resource efficient management on the other. All these will become possible due to introduction of unique Master’s program for technical students. Another important impact is connected with the establishment of the scientific center “People and Technologies” which carries out investigations in socio-engineering sphere, actively involves researchers into the sphere of social engineering and transfers the outcomes of research to a wide range of directions: from creation of new ways of research up to practical implementation of the best engineering solutions in the sphere of improvement people’s quality of life, mainly for persons with special needs. Addressing urgent socio-technical problems relating to the improvement of the quality of life, Strategic Academic Unit aims to raise reputation of Tomsk polytechnic university in the global academic community.
