What is ESEA ? The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) is a United States federal statue enacted April 11, 1965. ESEA was passed as a part of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s "War on Poverty”. 2015 Title I Annual Meeting Power Point Presentation How does it work? The Federal Government… Provides funds to states each year for Title I based on U.S. census poverty data. State Education Agencies… Sends the money to school districts based on the number of families that receive free and reduced lunch or CEP-Direct Certified. Which Schools Does Title I Serve? The program serves students in elementary and secondary schools that have a high poverty rate. Parents have a voice in their child’s education and gives them tools and resources necessary to help their child academically and establish a “learning environment” in the home. District Parent Involvement Plan – The District writes a plan that helps parents have more information about parent involvement on the district level. The Parent-School Compact – states the goals and responsibilities of school, parents and students. School Parent Involvement Plan – helps parents understand and take part in what the school is doing. This includes planning parent activities that will benefit you and your child. Online Parent Survey-Please take time to complete our online parent survey. Parents Have the Right To Know This information was sent in a letter to all parents at the start of school. Parents have the right to know the professional qualifications of their children’s teacher and paraprofessional. Parents have the right to know when their child is taught be a non-highly qualified teacher for 4 or more consecutive weeks.
