Physical Activity Everyone Can Do Physical activity opportunities for different age groups

Early Childhood Children learn by doing and seeing Physical activity is a vital means of learning Activities that promote health, well being, and knowledge include: Gymnastics Swimming Playground recreation Exploring

The School-aged Child Today, many schools do not offer PE programs, or do not offer one taught by a physical education specialist. However other schools that do offer physical education on a daily basis, use some of these activities: Volleyball Soccer Floor hockey Flag football Gymnastics Folk and Ethnic dancing

High School Years (The Transitional Years) Participation in high school sports increases annually. These programs include activities such as: Football Basketball Baseball Softball Weightlifting Golf Wrestling Tennis

High School Years Continued Students may also be involved in other activities that are not affiliated with the school system. These activities are usually provided by the community. These include private leagues, YMCA leagues, and other community sponsors. The out of school functions include: Summer sport leagues Boxing Karate Equestrian sports Fencing

Young Adulthood Young adults are those who have finished high school. This can be a transitional time for these individuals. They are trying to balance adulthood with exercise and establish new lifestyle patterns. Activities for this age group include: University recreation and fitness programs Intramural sports Community recreation sports Informal participation (activities for pleasure)

Older Adult Physical activity is critical in health and elongating one’s life. There are many organizations that give the elderly opportunities to get involved in physical activities. Some of these organizations include: Olympic Tennis Club World Masters Games World Assoc. for Veteran Athletes (WAVA) United States Masters Swimming (USMS) AND MANY MORE!!!

From 70 to 7 Not only is it important to get involved in physical activity, it is also important to get involved socially. There are many activities that can be done together no matter the age. This is important in bonding with others. Physical activity can be done within families and within the community.

Across the Board Some age appropriate activities that can be done together include: Hiking or scavenger hunts Swimming, getting involved with swim lessons Hunting Fishing Sports like tennis, softball, basketball Throwing horseshoes Kayaking or canoeing Volunteering community service

In Conclusion There are specific activities that are provided and appropriate for every age. Physical activities can be provided through schools, private sponsors, and community organizations. It is important to get involved in physical activity to promote health and well being. Try to find activities that are appropriate for all ages to facilitate bonding. Get involved with your community.
