GUI Evolution (Fruit vs Squares) By: Jaron Silas

What Is Graphic User Interface? Graphic User Interface (GUI) is interaction with electronic devices through graphical icons and visual indicators. Graphic User Interface make it easier for people like us to use computers, phones, tablets, etc..

Early Graphic User Interface The Xerox Alto was a early computer released in 1973 by Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) . It was the first computer to use a mouse based GUI. The Alto greatly influenced the design of some personal computers in the following decades.

Early GUI (Apple) Steve Jobs observed/studied PARC’s work and led the Macintosh team to create the Macintosh (Apple Mac) in 1984. The Macintosh surpassed the Alto by adding manipulative icons, and drag & drop manipulation of objects in the file system.

Early GUI (Microsoft) Microsoft worked and in 1985 it released an add-on to Microsoft Disk operating system (MSDOS) called “Windows 1.0”. Also two programs to work with Windows 2.0 were released: Microsoft Excel and Desktop Publisher Aldus PageMaker.
