What we’ll cover Who we are Ultrasound training recommendations Official guidelines: SDMS, AWHONN What we offer Getting certification What separates us

We… Began in 2002 Trained over 500 clinics in 10 years All at Sonography Now have a heart for service All have volunteer experience

Quoted from JDMS Standards for Assurance of Minimum Entry-Level Competence for the DUP “Clinical education should be an adjunct to didactic education. The cognitive and psychomotor skills to perform require extensive clinical experience. Clinical education must be accomplished under direct supervision of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer”. RDMS education is a 2-4 year program

SDMS Guidelines Patient information and evaluation Patient education and communication Analysis and determination of procedure plan for conducting the diagnostic exam Implementation of procedure plan Evaluation of examination results Documentation Quality of care: Credentials, best possible exam, staying current Education Collaboration Ethics

AWHONN recommendations 12 hours didactic education Supervised hands-on training Continuing education Recertification of skills annually

From ACOG, ACR, AIUM, ASRT, CAAHEP The program director is to be responsible for structure and daily operation of the program. The program director shall be an appropriately credentialed sonographer. The medical director shall provide guidance to ensure that the medical components of the didactic and clinical curriculum meet current acceptable performance standards. Each clinical instructor shall be an appropriately credentialed sonographer and have appropriate education and experience to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

ACOG, ACR, AIUM, ASRT, CAAHEP cont. The program shall encourage the program staff and faculty to pursue continuing professional growth, to ensure that program faculty and officials can fulfill their responsibilities. Students shall have ready access, in terms of time and location to an adequate supply of current books, journals, periodicals, and other reference materials related to the curriculum or profession. Program must have a continuing system for reviewing the effectiveness of the educational program.

What we offer Time to Begin Sonography Training Intermediate Ultrasound Training Advanced Ultrasound Training CEU’s through California Board of Nursing

Department Plan Pre-training plan for department Post training plan for department Maintenance plan Contingency plan

Determine how many to train How many hours you’re open Determine how many sonographers are needed Build a solid team, then add Medical professionals can join team for other duties Short term/long term plans

Certification What it means Why we do it How we can do it Medical professional perspective Physician response Center security

What makes us different Local RDMS or physician may have little or no PHMC experience Sonography Now training is specifically designed to meet the needs of the PHMC Sonography Now has experience training in over 500 PMC’s

Most common questions Can the medical director train? Local RDMS training? We have only one nurse to train, can you help? How do we get enough patients? Can we make payments? When do we get started? What equipment type should we get?

When you build on a solid foundation, your organization will stand for a long, long time.
