3 CoAEMSP Program Satellite: off-campus location(s) that are advertised or otherwise made known to individuals outside the sponsor where students can complete the laboratory (or similar hands-on skills) professional course(s) without attending the main campus.

4 Satelitte Courses Continued
Satellite(s) are included in the CAAHEP accreditation of the sponsor and function under the direction of the key personnel of the program. (Policy XII.C and CAAHEP Policy 209 B Alternative Models of Education- Satellites) Request for approval of a Satellite Location form must be submitted in advance, for EACH class and EACH satellite location.

5 Request for Approval of a Satellite
Approval of Satellite location is NECESSARY for EACH cohort! If you plan to offer off-campus location Paramedic program where students can complete the program without attending your main campus. Have you received approval from CoAEMSP to conduct the cohort of students?

6 Satellite Courses & Distance Learning
A satellite does not pertain to sites used by a completely on-line/distance education program for individual students.

7 Responsibilities as Program Coordinator/Sponsoring Entity
EMS Education programs shall be sponsored by organizations or individuals with adequate resources and dedication to carry out successful educational endeavors. Sponsors should provide appropriate oversight and supervision to ensure that programs are educationally and fiscally sound.

8 General Responsibilities
Curriculum must include all content required by the current National EMT educational standards and competencies. Course must include all minimum clock hours of classroom, laboratory, clinical and field instruction. Program must be approved by Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

9 Bloom’s Taxonomy

10 Program Director Contribute adequate time to assure the quality and success of the program. Responsible for the development, organization, administration, periodic review and effectiveness of the program. Supervise the quality of instruction provided to students.

11 Program Coordinator/Director
Review student performance to assure progress toward completion. Review and supervise the quality of instruction. Document each graduates achieved level of competence prior to graduation (completion).

12 Additional team members to enhance success and meet accreditation requirements
Actively work with your medical director. Have and advisory committee representing the program’s communities of interest.

13 Advisory Committee Program Director must assure that all documentation and progress reports are included in committee meeting agendas and packets. Should be designated and charged with helping the program in; formatting appropriate goals, standards, monitoring needs, expectations and ensuring program responsiveness.

14 Course Coordinator An individual who has the overall responsibility for conducting an emergency medical services (EMS) training course under the direction of an approved EMS training program. Must be certified at least as an EMT, and must be certified or licensed at or above the level of the course being coordinated.

15 Responsibilities Plan for and evaluate the overall operation of assigned courses. Provide supervision and oversight for assigned courses. Act as liaison between the students, personnel instructing in assigned courses. Coordinates submission of course approval documents and fees.

16 continued Assure availability of classrooms and other facilities necessary to provide for the instruction and convenience of students. Process student applications and select students. Schedule classes and schedule faculty. Assure that training equipment and supplies are available and operational for each laboratory session.

17 continued Maintain effective relationships with clinical and field internships facilities necessary to meet instructional objectives. Develop field internship and clinical objectives. Train, supervise, and evaluate internship preceptors for their effectiveness. Maintain all course records for a minimum of five years.

18 continued Coordinate written examinations, skills proficiency verifications and any other student evaluations. Evaluate effectiveness of faculty. Attest to the successful course completion of all students who meet the program’s requirements for completion.

20 Practical Approach Meet with school administration and faculty during the planning process for a course and discuss: Type of Course (Dual Credit, Articulated Credit or C.E.) Funding Clear Expectations and Instructor credentials Interest and Facilities Review; schedule, syllabi, and reports needed Provide for all in-service needs prior to course.

Discuss with faculty any special circumstances Equipment equivalency Scheduling conflicts Extra or additional duties the faculty may have to fulfill during the course Periodic meetings scheduled Technology use including; group s, Facebook, Twitter etc.

25 Before Course Starts Meet with students in advance to:
Discuss selection criteria. Course goals and expectations. Course’s classroom and clinical requirements. Meet with parents. Discuss course, certification and clinical requirements. HB5 60/30 TX Higher Education Strategic Plan

26 First Day and During Course
Meet students on first day. Schedule Medical Director visit if possible. Be prepared to substitute for instructor if necessary during the course. Visit course periodically. Address problems immediately.

27 Being a Resource for Faculty throughout the course
Be available to assist with; General reports, Formal/informal discussions with students and faculty Attendance reports Grade reports. College campus visits
