Gravity Section 1-2.
Gravity The force of attraction between objects that is due to their masses.
Gravity and Free Fall.  Gravity - attraction between objects with mass  Gives weight  Causes free fall Gravity.
Chapter 2 The Properties of Matter. Section 1: What is Matter? Matter – anything that has mass and takes up space –Examples: air, water, books, hair,
And Free Fall. Gravity  The attraction between objects with mass  Gives smaller objects weight  Causes free fall.
Mass of an object is the measure of its inertia. Greater the mass, the greater is the inertia. It remains the same whether the object is on the earth,
Mass. Triple Beam Balance Mass: is a measure of the amount of matter in an object.

www.makemegenius.com Free Science Videos for Kids DEFINITIONS Mass- the amount of matter an object has. Matter- something that has mass and takes up space. Weight- is the amount of force by which an object is pulled by gravity, it is not constant it depends upon gravity. www.makemegenius.com Free Science Videos for Kids

Units for Measuring Mass Mass is measured in grams and kilograms. 1 paper clip= 1 gram 1000g=1 kilogram The average human adult weighs 75kg. www.makemegenius.com Free Science Videos for Kids

www.makemegenius.com Free Science Videos for Kids Weight The weight of a mass is the force that the earth pulls on the mass. The entire idea of weight can be understood as the force of gravity on something. The whole idea of weight is related to the force of gravity.  In the metric system force is measured in newtons hence weight is also measured in newtons. You will learn later that on the surface of the earth, a mass of 1 kilogram weighs 9.8 newtons. Weight changes depending on how much gravity you have pulling on you - the same truck would be lighter on Mars or on the Moon, and it wouldn't weigh anything at all in space, but it would always have the same mass. www.makemegenius.com Free Science Videos for Kids

Free Science Videos for Kids COMPARE AND CONTRAST MASS vs. WEIGHT Always remains constant Depends on gravity Does not depend on gravity weight=mass x gravity weight of an object changes if the gravity changes www.makemegenius.com Free Science Videos for Kids
