1 Weight Chapter 41

2 Weight The weight of an object is the force of gravity acting on it.
Weight is a force and therefore is measured in Newtons (N) Weight (N) = Mass (kg) x 10N/kg(gravity)

3 Weight Example A boy has a mass of 60kg, what is his weight on earth.
Weight (N) = Mass (kg) x 10N/kg(gravity) Weight (N) = 60kg x 10N/kg Weight (N) = 600N

4 Weight Example 2 A mobile phone has a mass of 80g, find its weight on earth. Weight (N) = Mass (kg) x 10N/kg(gravity) Convert g to kg divide by 1000 80g/1000 = 0.08kg Weight (N) = 0.08 x 10N/kg Weight (N) = 0.8N

5 Weight vs Mass Weight Mass Measured in Newtons (N)
Mass is measured in kilograms. Weight depends on where you are. Mass is fixed Weight is a force Mass is a fixed property

6 Weight vs Mass The mass of an object is the amount of matter in it.
The weight of an object is the force of gravity acting on it.
