The development and cohesion of the team Angelina Demner September 21, 2017

The source of knowledge Based on book “Personal Development for life and work” by L. Ann Masters, Harold R.Wallace and my own work experience

Something about this book From this book you can get information about: Self-development Communicating Working with others Workplace success

Something about my work experience I work in teenage camp. Our task is to adapt the teens to adult life and create the right conditions for productive learning and recreation. For these purposes, a cohesive team is needed. Main idea of our camp is educating through role play game.

Types of teams By time of existence temporary permanent In practice, the temporary nature of the team is connected, as a rule, the fact that it is intended for a specific one-off task.

Stages of team development Familiarity Cohesion Fake unity Conflict True unity

Familiarity At this level, a group of adults exists on their own. A group of children and adolescents need adult help, for example, you can use special games and exercises to help. An example of such a exercise: Participants split in pairs, preferably on the principle of the least "familiarity". Within 10 minutes they tell each other about themselves, then they represent the partner to other participants, speaking about him in the first person, standing behind him and placing their hands on the shoulder of the partner in front.

Cohesion The main goals of team building can be formulated as follows: In this step team-leader of head of the team can improve productivity by cohesion of the team. For this purpose he can use team building. The main goals of team building can be formulated as follows: Create a sense of unity among the collective; To replace workers' sense of competition with a sense of cooperation; Teach people to effectively interact with each other; To develop an understanding among all employees and trust to each other; To consolidate the team, to bring the "team spirit" to a higher level; Strengthen the authority of management, using informal events; Give employees the possibility of psychological relief.

There is simple teambuilding exercise: «Intellectual football» The team is divided into two teams. Then the defenders, the attackers and the goalkeeper are selected. Each team should come up with 5-7 questions for different teams on different topics: cinema, painting, sports, politics, etc. Then the team asks the question and throws the ball to the attacking opponent. If they do not cope with the issue - pass the ball to the defenders, and then the goalkeeper. If the answer is not found, a goal is scored. In the end you can do analysis of this exercise

Conflict CONFLICT IS DESTRUCTIVE WHEN CONFLICT IS POSITIVE WHEN The resolution of the conflict ends with a winner and a loser It keeps you from doing your work or feeling good about yourself or others It undermines morale The individuals involved act aggressively It is harmful to an individual’s emotional or physical well-being It increases absenteeism and turnover rate CONFLICT IS POSITIVE WHEN Is the means to effect change Leads to new ways of thinking and behaving Brings problems to the surface Helps people recognize and benefit from diversity Motivates people to participate Forces people to make choices Supports good decision making Build cooperation among people though learning more about each other Clarifies important issues

Values and Beliefs conflict Types of conflict Simple conflict False conflict Ego conflict Values and Beliefs conflict

Leadership Skills Every team needs a leader. The innate leader is revealed at the first stages of development of the team, but everyone can develop leadership qualities. Ambition Persistence Integrity Persuasiveness High energy Assertiveness Intelligence Decisiveness Self-confidence Sensitivity to the feelings and needs of others Creativity

Example of leadership exercise Diary of success Get a notebook and every night before going to bed, write down a few things that you have succeeded in today. This should be done no matter how bad the day was. This is how the human memory is arranged, that we remember the pain better than the joy and most of the people at the end of the day remember basically its hardships and troubles. Concentrating on the bad, we lose energy, concentrating on the good - charging Be free to concentrate on the situations in which you won. Fix these situations with the help of the Diary of Success

Thank you for your kind attention
