Chapter 20: Lymphatic System
{ The Lymphatic System.  The lymphatic system consists of:  lymphatic vessels which drain excess fluid from the tissues and return it to the cardiovascular.
The lymphatic system Clean and Kill. Ducts and Drains The lymphatic system is an extensive drainage system that returns water and proteins from various.
Lymphatic System. Components of lymphatic system: Lymph (watery fluid collected from tissues) Lymphocytes Lymphatic vessels Lymph nodes Tonsils Spleen.

Lymphatic system review 2 Truths & a Lie

Pick the lie: 1. The function of the lymphatic system is to remove waste & excess fluid from the tissues. 2. Contraction of the skeletal muscles causes lymph to flow through the lymphatic vessels. 3. Lymph nodes range in size from a pinhead to a golf ball.

Pick the lie! 3

Pick the lie: 1. Lymph nodes produce a type of leukocyte & antibodies to fight infection. 2. Lymphatic vessels join together to form lymphatic capillaries. 3. The thoracic duct empties purified lymph into the left subclavian vein.

Pick the lie! 2

Pick the lie: 1. The spleen stores erythrocytes. 2. The palatine tonsils are located in the nasopharynx. 3. The thymus gland produces antibodies & manufactures lymphocytes during early childhood.

Pick the lie! 2

Pick the lie: 1. All purified lymph eventually drains into the thoracic duct. 2. The tonsils are masses of lymphatic tissue that filter interstitial fluid. 3. Hodgkin’s disease is a chronic, malignant disease of the lymph nodes.

Pick the lie! 1

Pick the lie: 1. Lymph tissue is found throughout the body in addition to being in the lymph nodes. 2. An inflammation of the lymphatic vessels is adenitis. 3. Lymphocytes are a normal component of both the lymph and blood.

Pick the lie! 2

Pick the lie: 1. An altered immune response can cause allergies. 2. An overactive immune response can lead to an autoimmune disease. 3. Passive immunity occurs when tissues are injured by bacteria, trauma, or toxins.

Pick the lie! 3

Pick the lie: 1. Lymphocytes are able to provide “memory” for your immune system. 2. An example of passive immunity would be antibodies transferred through the placenta. 3. The measles vaccine is an example of innate immunity.

Pick the lie! 3

Pick the lie: 1. The usual treatment for occasional bouts of tonsillitis is a tonsillectomy. 2. The spleen recycles or destroys RBCs. 3. If a child doesn’t have a functioning thymus, they would have trouble fighting infection.

Pick the lie! 1

Pick the lie: 1. Tonsillitis usually involves the palatine & lingual tonsils. 2. Functions of a lymph node include lymphocyte production & lymph filtration. 3. The cisterna chyli is found at the start of the thoracic duct.

Pick the lie! 1

Pick the lie: 1. Splenomegaly can be caused my mononucleosis. 2. Lymph is composed of interstitial fluid. 3. The thymus functions to store RBCs.
