The ingredients or building blocks of all art

*Line has length and width *Lines can be actual or implied A mark drawn by a tool such as a pencil, pen, or paint brush as it moves across a surface. Lines can be long or short, thick or thin, rough or smooth, and broken or solid. *Line has length and width *Lines can be actual or implied *Lines can convey moods and feelings, express ideas and action, divide areas or suggest peace.

A two-dimensional area that is measured by height and width. We can see a shape because it is either surrounded by a line, or because a change of color or values allows us to see its edges. Shapes can be geometric or organic.

*Forms can be viewed from many sides. A three-dimensional object that is measured by height, width, and depth. Forms are solid shapes and take up space. They stand, move hang from above, or project from a wall. *Forms can be viewed from many sides. *We are surrounded by forms.

Color is one of the most exciting elements of art. Color depends on light because it is made of light. There must be light for us to see color. *The color wheel is made up of the three primary, three secondary and six intermediate colors. *Artists use the color wheel to organize colors and to understand how colors work together. *Artists use color schemes to create mood.

The darkness or lightness of a color. * The difference between color values is called Value Contrast. *Value contrasts help us to see and understand a two-dimensional work of art.

The empty places around and between shapes are called space. *Sculptor, craftspeople and architects work with actual Space. Their forms have three dimensions-height, width, and depth. * Painters and other artists work with two dimensions- height and width. If they want to show depth in their flat work, they must make it appear to have depth.

Positive (filled with something) and Negative (empty areas).

*Textures are all around us in our environment and in nature. The way something feels. Visual texture imitates real texture. Tactile texture or actual texture is texture that can be felt. *Textures are all around us in our environment and in nature. *Texture is perceived by touch and sight. * Interior designers and architects use textural variety to create interest.
