Comprehensive Community Planning (CCP): An Introduction CCP is a community-led approach to planning, where the process is driven and owned by all community members CCP is an important tool on the path to self-governance and building capacity. It requires a unique approach to planning that can be adapted our culture and traditions It can help make a positive difference in addressing the specific issues of our community.

What is CCP? A Holistic Process undertaken with broad community participation. A comprehensive approach. Enables the community to establish a vision and implement projects to achieve this vision Helps ensure the projects and programs are thought through, make sense and are the best use of resources Integrates and links all other plans the community has produced

What is CCP? con’t A Holistic Process It is inclusive and represents the perspectives of all members Addresses key planning areas, all of which are interrelated and interdependent A unified process that defines CCP as a holistic and integrated exercise that can lead to sustainable development

Sustainable Development Meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Brundtland Commission, 1987) Takes a long term view. It encompasses all areas of our lives. Sustainable development is the guiding principle of CCP Ahousaht will decide what sustainability means and how to use CCP to achieve longevity of culture, environment and economy

CPP Benefits to the Community Provides a framework and process for the community to explore it’s core values and to establish a vision for the future and work towards achieving it. Can create positive change in a proactive way, while protecting the values of the community. Can improve the performance of the Administration and departments Enhances the community’s governance tools and capacity

Once in place, an effective CCP can: Empower the community – the community becomes more self-aware and has the tools to respond to change in an effective manner Improve performance – having a plan leads to informed decision-making. It decreases duplication, enables efficient use of resources and identifies and solves organizational problems Builds teamwork and expertise – improves communications within the governance, builds managerial and staff skills and supports capacity building efforts

CPP Benefits Con’t Coordinates future development – identifies future community priorities, anticipates future infrastructure and development needs Celebrates traditions and culture – the cultural aspects of the community will be the focus of the planning process Creates economic opportunities – sustainable economic opportunities is an essential part of creating a CCP, it will help to attract investment

What’s needed to make CCP work (needs that apply to all phases of the process) Community engagement and support Capacity building and training Effective Communications – develop a full communications plan with goals and objectives, key messages, budget, and evaluation

Stages of CCP Pre-planning Planning Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Updates and Revisions Living Document
