6th Grade Lesson Plan Subject Area : Language Arts Story Maps: The three little pigs We are going to learn about story maps and use the three little pigs as an example story.

Objectives The Students will be able to identify all the different parts of a story map. The students will be able to create their own story map after the power point.

What is a Story map??? It’s a graphic organizer that establishes a story’s order: beginning, middle and end , including details as to how you got to each one.

Why do we use story maps? Story maps help us visually see what is going on in the story. They help us organize information from a book. They have a place for… Main characters Minor characters Setting… When reading a book there is a lot of information to take in. Using a story map can help you organize your thoughts and understand what’s happening in the book.

What do you need to fill in a story map? Title of the book Settings Main characters Minor characters Rising action Climax Falling action Conflict Resolution Authors themes When you are filling out a story map it is important to have this information on it.

How do you put all your information on to the story map??? Where does that information go there's so much of it…and how does it all fit together?? Do I have to do it at the end of the book….no the middle …no You can actually start it at the beginning and fill it out as you go or do it after whatever works for you.

Story Map Here is a very clean and clear story map…. Point out where all the information goes.

Does it always have to look like that? When making a story map you can be as creative as you want. Everyone thinks differently and may want to organize differently maybe you want to draw pictures instead of write words… Just make sure that your Story map has the correct information on it. (Settings, Characters, Climax…) You can use the previous layout, dress it up a bit, or make up your own lay out. Just have all the information on the paper so someone else could understand it.

Now Go create your own creative about your favorite story! story map about your favorite story!

Different style…
