Recruitment: The Pitch How do you promote Key Club? What catches interest? Why would anyone want to join a club that makes keys???
Reasons to Join Key Club Community Service Make a global impact Meet lots of people Leadership opportunities Self-development Safe and welcoming community College applications Learn new skills (graphic design, public speaking, writing, etc.) Memorable experiences Be a part of something bigger than yourself
Ways to Recruit Freshmen orientation booth Club Rush Sharing fun videos (RTC, Fall Rally, DCON, but also of service!) mass sharing on social media is effective: use overlays, videos, publications, etc. Classroom to classroom ask teachers if you can briefly present
Ways to Recruit “Bring a friend” Initiative at meetings Host a club social/fundraiser or invite them to division ones! Put up flyers and posters Request a school announcement (PA system)
Ways to Recruit Host a parent info night Having parent support in extra-curriculars is extremely beneficial for both the parent and member Talk about your own experience Your own, credible testimonies are extremely important, too! Utilize the resources available on the Cyberkey
So, now that you’ve recruited members… what’s next?
Retention & Engagement Retention is Keeping everyone happy Maintaining the members (no one leaves) Engagement is Reaching out Involving the members Inclusiveness These go together!
Why Do Members Leave? They feel like “just” a member They don’t think they make an impact Exclusivity/loneliness- no friends in the club They lose motivation They become too busy
What Can You Do? Recognition Commend new members on their first event Member of the Month/Member Spotlight End-of-Term Banquet Service Awards Food, Leis, Awards, etc. are great, but even a “thank you” goes a long way Make them feel appreciated and acknowledged 13
What Can You Do? Make personal connections Encouragement BEE the friendly face in the crowd, someone who is always dependable Encouragement BEE sure they know you believe in them push them to their goals Share your own stories BEEing relatable helps! 14
