IV EUROPEAN HUMAN RIGHTS MOOT COURT COMPETITION

ABOUT THE EHRMCC Simulates the procedures of complaints to the European Court of Human Rights Case concerning the violation of the European Convention of Human Rights In cooperation with the Council of Europe The only European Moot Court Competition on Human Rights in English - René Cassin in French All Member States of ELSA or of the Council of Europe

THE STRUCTURE 1) Registration Teams consisting of 2 to 4 law students are eligible to participate in the Competition. Only students enrolled in undergraduate or Masters’ studies from a school or law faculty awarding a law degree are allowed to participate. From this year only one team per university is allowed to take part in the Competition. Each team may have up to 2 team coaches: can be fellow students, professors, lawyers or former participants.

THE STRUCTURE 2) Clarification Questions Each registered team may submit up to five clarification questions on the case within the given deadline. All questions are answered by the Case Author. A list of all questions is published on the website and sent to all registered teams

THE STRUCTURE 3) Written Submissions Registered teams must send two Written Submissions, one for the Applicant and one for the Respondent within the deadline. Written Submissions are accepted with maximux five days of delay. This year each submission was scored by two judges. Formula: [(Average Applicant + Average Respondent - Penalty Points) :2]

THE STRUCTURE 4) The Final Oral Round The best 16 teams are selected to participate in the Final Oral Round in Strasbourg. Preliminary Rounds: all teams must speak once as Applicant and once as Respondent Quarter – Finals Semi – Finals Grand Final

Prizes & Awards Winning Team – «The Council of Europe Award»: each member is awarded a traineeship at the European Court of Human Rights Best Overall Orator: traineeship at Council of Europe Liaison Office with the European Union –Brussels € 2,000.00 for the Winning Team € 1,000.00 for the second team € 500.00 for the third team
