2 About the Competition Simulation of the European Court of Human Rights concerning the violation of the European Convention on Human Rights Only english MCC on Human Rights europe wide In cooperation with the Council of Europe 2 rounds – written pre-rounds and final oral round Open to all ELSA and CoE Member Countries Teams: 2 – 4 members per team Submission for Applicant and Respondent Oral Pleading for both sides Only 2 members are allowed to plead

5 European Human Rights Moot Court Competition The Case Written by Andrew den Exter form the Erasmus Observatory on Health Law, Rotterdam, The Netherlands in cooperation with the HRMCC Advisory Board About the sterilization of an HIV infected woman after giving birth in the fictitious country of Orosia

6 European Human Rights Moot Court Competition The Jury Will score the written submissions in December and judge the oral pleadings in February Already 5 Judges for Written Submissions Already 6 Judges for the Oral Pleadings More pending

7 European Human Rights Moot Court Competition The Timeline 15th July 2012– Launch of the Competition 15th September 2012– Clarification Deadline 31st October 2012– Team Registration Deadline 30th November 2012– Deadline written submissions 24.-28. February 2013– Final Oral Round

8 European Human Rights Moot Court Competition The European Final 24th until 28th of February 2013 At the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights 16 best qualified teams Participation Fee for Accommodation, transport, meals, venue, welcome reception, award ceremony „The Council of Europe prize“ – a traineeship at the European Court of Human Rights for 1 month
