What to expect from Year 5 An expectation that all children will show an exceptional work ethic, each day. Team work and togetherness A ‘step-up’ from lower KS2. Homework set weekly- each Wednesday, to be returned on a Monday. Spellings set weekly, tested the following week. Our VISION OFSTED OUTSTANDING

Curriculum Coverage Some of the main elements: English Continuing to develop knowledge of spelling patterns and exceptions. Punctuation, more elaborate and extensive use for particular reasons and audiences Planning and editing writing Using a wider range of sentence structures with confidence Maths All times tables and related division facts, instantly recalled Confident use of all written methods for calculations Relationships between fractions, decimals and percentages Development of shape, space and measure skills, converting of all measures and use of formula to calculate area and perimeter

Weekly Timetable

Topics in Year 5 Autumn Term – Discover – The Great Divide Spring Term – Explore – What is the difference between living and surviving? Summer Term – Create – Life Through a Lens

Homework Homework will be set on a Wednesday and will need to be completed and handed in on the following Monday.

PE PE will be on Tuesday morning with a specialist coach with swimming on a Thursday afternoon. Mrs Smith will take us swimming. Children will need dark shorts and Jerry Clay Academy t-shirts (or a white t-shirt) for indoor PE. Children will need a dark tracksuit for outdoor PE. Please ensure children have a spare pair of trainers/pumps in school. Earrings need to be taken out/taped up. Hair needs to be tied back. Girls are advised to have a spare pair of socks in their PE kits for if we do PE on a day when they are wearing tights.

Key Dates for Year 5 - 14/09/17 – Parents meeting about London trip 5:30pm wc 16/10/17 – Cultural Week 30/11/17 – History Workshop for parents with Year 6 21/11/17 and 23/11/17 – Parents Evenings 18/12/17 – Christmas Carols with KS2 14th – 15th March 2018 – Overnight trip to London wc 26/3/18 – Outdoor Learning Adventure Week wc 21/5/18 – Creative Arts Week Summer 2018 – Trip to National Media Museum in Bradford 15/6/18 – Sports Day 13/6/18 – Art Gallery wc 16/7/18 – Celebration Week
