Intrinsic pacemakers generate the rhythms Master circadian clock gives the pace. CRY1,2 J Endocrinol 2007; 195: 187-98. Ann Neurol 2015; 78: 317-22.

Light and darkness provide time cues Human key pacemaker entrains to morning light exposure. CRY1,2 Curr Biol 2007; 17: R44-5.

Master clock tends to delay Delays are greater during the puberty and winter months. Human intrinsic day is 23 h 41 min to 24 h 35 min (on average 24 h 5 min for women, 24 h 11 min for men). Science 1999;284:2177-81. Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A 2011;108 Suppl 3:15602-8.

Seasons challenge the master clock Morning-active in winter, evening-active in summer. Cell 2007;129:207-19.
