The Word of God

Our response

Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, and the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honour and glory and blessing!” And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: “Blessing and honour and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!” Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever. Revelation 5 v 11-14

Worship Our response to who God is, as He reveals Himself to us in His Word

So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel. And the children of the Levites bore the ark of God on their shoulders, by its poles, as Moses had commanded according to the Word of the Lord. 1 Chronicles 15 v 14 - 15

Why we worship Worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness. Psalm 96 v 9 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Psalm 150 v 6

Worship Prepares us for God’s presence in our lives Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise… Psalm 100 v 4 But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel. Psalm 22 v 3

Changes our circumstances as we focus on who God is We put on “the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness”. Isaiah 61 v 3 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praising and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. Acts 16 v 25-26

A weapon of warfare Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand, to execute vengeance on the nations, and punishments on the peoples; to bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron. Psalm 149 v 6-9 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. 2 Chronicles 20 v 22

How we worship Spirit – Soul – Body

Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph! Psalm 47 v 1 Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Psalm 96 v 1 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our maker. Psalm 95 v 6 …Let my prayer be set before you as incense, the lifting of my hands as the evening sacrifice. Psalm 141 v 2 Let them praise His name with dancing and make music to Him with tambourine and harp. Psalm 149 v 3

Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labour of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls – Yet will I rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. Habakkuk 3 v 17-18   I am in the midst of lions; I lie among ravenous beasts – men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords. Be exalted O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth. Psalm 57 v 4-5

Therefore I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Romans 12 v 1

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth. John 4 v 23-24

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counsellor, to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you. … All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14 v 16-17, 25-26

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that confess His name. Hebrews 13 v 15

Oh, come let us adore Him For He alone is worthy We give You all the glory How could we not adore You
