R is for… Donna Reed Donna Reed was a famous actress who lived in Dennison, Iowa. She was an actress in: It’s a Wonderful Life, From Here to Eternity, and The Donna Reed show. She also got an Academy award in 1954 for From Here to Eternity and for Best Supporting Actress. She was born January 27th, 1921 and died January 14th, 1986.

I is for…Iowa State University Iowa State University is Iowa’s university. It is located in Ames, Iowa. It is the state’s college, and was founded in 1858.

S is for… state motto Our liberties we prize, and our rights we will maintain.

A is for…air balloons There is an air balloon festival in Des Moines annually. It is held in mid July-August. Some people ride at night. I think that would be fun, because it is so much more beautiful.

T is for… tractor The first person to make a tractor was William Patterson from California. They were developed in California, but luckily Patterson shared his knowledge. If he hadn’t we wouldn’t be a leading agriculture state.

U is for… Underwood Underwood is right where my school is. It’s 2009 population is 840. Since then it has grown 22 percent, making the population. There is 46.1 percent males, and 53.9 percent females. The reason the background is a black squirrel is because Underwood has tons of black squirrels.

W is for … wINAMAGOO Winamagoo is an Iowan tribe. They’ve had a settlement for over two hundred years.

K is for… Kate Shelley Kate Shelley was the first women in Iowa to have a bridge and train named after her. The Kate Shelley 400 was the train’s name that she got named after her. There was a big crash, and Kate Shelley helped tons of people.

H is for…Honey Creek I live in Honey Creek. Most maps don’t have Honey Creek’s population, just because it’s so small. I only have about five neighbors where I live there.

N is for… nashville Nashville is a place in Iowa, too. It was not named after Tennessee's Nashville. It’s coordinates are M-5 It may be a small town-no pop. On the map.

J is for… Jamaica Not named after Jamaica. Difference Same ?????? Not really warm in winter Does not have sea by it

F is for… Farmers cooperative Located in Farmersville, Iowa, the FC is the LARGEST agriculture organization in Iowa, with tons of members.

P is for… Pella Pella is a small town in Iowa. It has grown since it’s early foundation as a town. Some people say, “It still feels like a small town.”

E is for… estherville ville Estherville is a place in Iowa. It was named it’s name because

X is for…Xavier high school Xavier high school is a high school in Iowa. They do very good in sports, and are recognized for good grades.

Y is for… yorktown Yorktown is a big settlement in Iowa. Located in Iowa’s own Four-Corners, York town is bigger than lots of Iowa’s town.

W is for… Walnut Walnut is also located in Iowa, close to Underwoood. It was maybe named after walnuts themselves, because they own tons of groves.

O is for… O Brien’ county O Brien’ is a county in Iowa.14,398 is it’s population-which is actually pretty big. Population declined 4.7% since 2000.

Q is for… Quimby Quimby is a small place in Iowa. Population: 368-only!!! Founded 1887

D is for… Dodge House The Iowa Dodge House is located in Council Bluffs, Iowa. It was General Dodge’s house who was, of course a general. There was a meeting in Council Bluffs after the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804.

G is for…Gypsum Gypsum is a mineral, commonly found in Iowa. It relates to Iowa’s history because in 1870 a giant carved of Fort Dodge gypsum was found in the ground, and people had to pay 50 cents each just to see it. And it was fake. It was called the Cardiff Giant. Fort dodge gypsum

M is for…mutton bustin’ Mutton bustin’ is a traditional American event. It is most of the time (when held in Iowa) at the Mid-America Center. Mutton Bustin’ is where children get onto a sheep and holds on for the ride. The children do have protective pads on. You have to be 55 pounds or lower.

C is for… climate Iowa has an interesting climate. In about March-August it is summer, and it gets up to even 118 degrees Fahrenheit. That is the hottest recorded temperature for Iowa, set in 1934 on July 20th, in the town of Keokuk (48c degrees). Idaho and Iowa tied for third hottest day recorded in the United States. In about August-November it is fall. The temperature is medium. December-February it is winter. That is the very cold months. The coldest temperature ever in Iowa was -47 degrees Fahrenheit. Fourth coldest recorded in USA.

L is for… Le Mars Le Mars is a place in Iowa, and it holds the ice cream capitol of the world-Blue Bunny. Blue Bunny as of right now has about 70 ice cream flavors.

Z IS FOR Iowa’s Zoo-Blank Park zoo… Blank Park Zoo is located in Des Moines, Iowa. There is only one zoo in Iowa- Blank Park Zoo. Blank Park Zoo has a big river of fish, and you can feed them. They are (most of) giant goldfish.

B is for… buttercow The butter cow is a cow, obviously made of butter(600 pounds), and is at the Iowa State Fair- an annually held fair in Des Moines, Iowa’s capitol. It always has some other character to accompany it. For example, in 2007 the other butter sculpture that was the butter cow’s partner was Harry Potter.
