Homework Reading: Your child needs to read for 20 minutes at least 5 times per week and record reading in his/her Reading Log. It would be beneficial if you could listen to your child read as often as possible and check his/her understanding of the text. Reading Wall Reading list Literacy: Set by your child’s class teacher and will either relate to our sentence level/grammar work in class or a reading comprehension task.

Spelling Set by your child’s spelling teacher each week. Focus on practising and applying spelling rules taught. Your child should continue to practise the words from the Year 5/6 spelling lists. Words from this list will be sent home and tested fortnightly. Numeracy: Set by your child’s class teacher. All activities should be completed in the book. The expectation will be that all children will complete the 1st section as a minimum Mental maths should continue to be practised daily for no more than 5 minutes. This could include learning of times tables facts, division facts, numbers bonds and calculations with small decimal numbers. (e.g. 4.7 + 2.4)

Homework Reminders All numeracy homework needs to be completed in pencil. Literacy homework should be completed in pen or pencil, according to the Handwriting Certificate held by your child. Homework instructions will be stuck into the children’s Reading diary and should be signed by parents on completion. Homework will be set on a Thursday and needs to be handed to the appropriate teacher on a Wednesday so that it can be marked.

General Reminders PE Kit – should be named and in a drawstring bag. Kits should be in school all week – Year 6 P.E days are Monday, Wednesday. Earrings need to be removed or covered with tape (which needs to sent into school with your child). Shoulder length or longer hair will need to be tied up. School Uniform – please name everything! Lunchboxes – please name! Art Apron – an old adult polo shirt is ideal. Named please! Nail varnish needs to be removed before the school day begins. We would greatly appreciate parent helpers for listening to children read. Please let your child’s class teacher know if you think you can offer any help.

Communication If you need to discuss anything, please make an appointment either via the school office or Home Link Book. Use the Home Link Book.
