Daily
School reading book, other books from the home and the library – encouraging a wide choice, talking to the child about their reading and their understanding of what they are reading; Children should be read aloud to an adult 3 times a week.
Spellings and/or other Literacy activity
Weekly
Spellings - a list of words which are taken from the National Curriculum, a spelling rule or the child’s own work or a topic being studied in class. The child could be encouraged to look at each word carefully, say it, cover it up, write it from memory and then check it. This process is repeated several times. The words are assessed in class.
Often the child will be asked to extend the spelling words, e.g. writing sentences and paragraphs including the words, finding out their meaning in a dictionary, etc.
Tables
Tables - 2x – 12x tables and related division facts. Year 6 Set 1 will receive mixed tables practice.
Literacy and Maths
Literacy: An extension activity to support classroom literacy;
Maths: An extension activity to support classroom numeracy;
Research
As appropriate
Cross-curricular based extended project making use of books, the library, internet, own trips out etc.

Progress is measured via a complicated formula
We also continue to provide teacher assessment in bands and steps as we feel this helps measure achievement more finitely.
