Macbeth Act III Scene I By: Joslyn Lehotsky, Katie Adamski, Dimitri Pihou,Brandon Kline, Sage Sterling, Nick Karabetsos

Read lines 1-10. Cite specific dialogue supporting the idea that Banquo is hopeful about the prediction of the Weird Women. Banquo is hopeful about the prediction of the Weird Women because Macbeth had it all just as the witches had proclaimed. It was also prophesied that the crown would not go to Macbeth descendants but the grandsons of Banquo instead. “If the witches tell the truth which they did about you maybe what they said about me will come true too.” Lines 7-9

2) What suspicions does Banquo voice in line 3 2) What suspicions does Banquo voice in line 3? What does he say that lets readers know what he suspects? Banquo says that Macbeth has everything he wanted; being King, Thane of Cawdor and Glamis. Banquo thinks Macbeth cheated to win those titles. He is suspicious about how this all happened as the witches said. "If the witches tell me truth-which they did about you maybe what they said about me will come true too but shhh! I'll shut up now." Line 3

3) Lines 15-18. Explain the double meaning might be intended by Banquo’s statement that his “duties/ are with a most indissoluble tie/ Forever knit. That Banquo will always do as the king says. Banquo has duties and to do and will kinda do side jobs for Macbeth.

4) Lines 29-71: What is an example of irony in Macbeth’s dialogue in lines 29-35 Macbeth said to Banquo before he went riding, "we hear that the princes, those murderers, have hidden in England and Ireland. They haven't confessed to cruelly murdering their own father." The irony is that Macbeth killed Duncan.

5) Lines 29-71: What evidence in Macbeth’s soliloquy (lines 47-71) explains Macbeth’s assessment of Banquo? What is revealed about Macbeth’s character? It is revealed that Macbeth is scared of Banquo and that the murder of Duncan may have cleared the way for Duncan’s sons to overthrow Macbeth’s own family. Banquo takes risks, and his mind never stops working. Macbeth is not tortured my conscience. He has ruined peace.

6) Lines 65-71: What is the theme developed in these lines? The theme is Don’t take advantage of things or they will be taken from you.

7) Lines 51-76, what doubts does Macbeth say is troubling him? He is not safe as king He fears Banquo and his nobleness He tortured his own conscious Handed soul to devil

8) According to Macbeth, why does he not kill Banquo himself 8) According to Macbeth, why does he not kill Banquo himself? (lines 130-138) He is now king and that would not be a good reputation. He makes the servants go after him and his sons.

Literary Elements Soliloquy- Macbeth thinks about how he is afraid of Banquo. He is only afraid of him and nobody else. Macbeth mentions his regrets of the murder.
