Macbeth Act 3 Scene 6 Emily Oravetz, Greg Siler

2 What opinion do Lennox and the other thanes hold of Macbeth?
The other thanes think Macbeth is a tyrant. Lennox is very sceptical and suspicious about how over dramatic Macbeth is over the deaths that have been taking place.

3 2. Macduff does not appear at all in Act III. Where is he, and why?
Macduff went to England to get help from King Edward; hoping that King Edward will help end the tyranny going on in Scotland.

4 3. Explain what life in scotland under Macbeth has been like, and how some noblemen plan to put an end to Macbeth’s rule. Cite text evidence. Life in Scotland has been rough. Lord says he hopes that Macduff and King Edward will help bring food onto tables again, make their nights more of an ease, stop murders happening at feasts and banquets, to contribute to the King, and receive honors freely. Lines 33-36, “To ratify the work--we may again Give to our tables meat, sleep to our nights, Free from our feasts and banquets bloody knives, Do faithful homage and receive free honors.”

5 4. Predict what may happen in the next act of the play
4. Predict what may happen in the next act of the play. Cite specific examples of foreshadowing to demonstrate what lead you to your prediction. We predict that Macbeth will attempt to go to war with King Edward and England. Lines 37-38, “And this report Hath so exasperated the king that he Prepares for some attempt of war.”

6 Literary Elements Irony
Lines 12-14, “Did he not straight In pious rage the two delinquents tear That were the slaves of drink and thralls of sleep?” In these lines, Lennox is saying that it was very brave and showed loyalty for Macbeth to kill the two servants, when really Macbeth killed the two servants in fear.

7 2. Understatement Lines 24-25, “The son of Duncan-From whom this tyrant holds the due of birth..” Here, Lord is saying Macbeth has taken away the throne from Malcolm. This is an understatement because Macbeth not only took away the throne, but he was also the person who murdered Malcolm’s father.

8 3. Conflict Lines 38-39, “And this report Hath so exasperated the king that he Prepares for some attempt of war.” The conflict in these lines is that Macbeth doesn’t want to lose title of being king so he starts to get ready to go to war with England just to keep the title.

9 4. Hyperbole Lines 43-44, “You’ll rue the time That clogs me with this answer.” This is a hyperbole because it’s a very dramatic reply to Macduff saying he didn’t want to return to Scotland.
