Presentation transcript:

Games Squad As part of the Amplify Games Squad, you will… Get sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes info about Amplify’s games before they’re released to your classmates Shape the experience of Amplify Games at your school by running and creating your own challenges, displays and activities Act as resident experts on Amplify games for your teachers and classmates Receive special badges and status on the forums

Games Squad Materials You can use these materials to communicate all the exciting things you’re doing with your classmates. We’ll refer to them throughout this presentation. NOTE: These items can be found here: http://resources.learning.amplify.com/games/teacher-resources/engagement-resources-implementation-strategies/engagement-materials/ Some of these materials are meant to be displayed in a spot with high visibility. Think about where you might be able to display your work. This might be in the hallway, in the cafeteria, in the library/media center, etc.

Games Squad There are so many exciting things to do as part of the Games Squad, so think about what kind of role you want to take on. Are you interested in… Events: Planning and hosting events Engagement: Promoting the games and keeping your classmates engaged and excited Forums: Customizing and curating content for the Games Squad category on the forums Experts: Serving as a go-to expert on Amplify Games Regardless of your individual “role,” you’ll have to work together and call on each other’s area of expertise to make the Games Squad a success!

Multiplayer Events Tournament: Hold a multiplayer championship. Multiplayer Hours: Host designated hours for real-time matches from home. StoryCards TyrAnt MasterSwords Mlob Rule *Note: You might only have access to two of these games: Story Cards and MasterSwords (ELA) or TyrAnt and Mlob Rule (STEM)

Events Game Sharing Events Speed Game Sharing: Live-demo your favorite games for teachers and classmates. Attendees will rotate through multiple games throughout the event. Games Q&A: Give your teachers an opportunity to learn more about Amplify Games from the experts: YOU! Host a Q&A where teachers can bring their questions.

Engagement Student Engagement Which Curioso Are You: Have your classmates share which avatar they chose in Lexica and then tally the results at the end of the month. What Type of Gamer Are You: Have everyone report on which type of game activities they enjoy the most.

Engagement Event Promotion Teacher events: Design flyers or invitations to distribute in teacher mailboxes and/or post in the faculty break room. Student events: Design flyers to print/photocopy and post around the school or hand out in homeroom. Write and schedule an announcement to be read over the school loudspeakers.

Forums Forums The Games Squad has its own category on the forums. This space is completely your own to create your own topics, tips and tricks, fan fiction – whatever you want! You can use this poster to highlight forums events and activities – created either by Amplify or by yourselves.

Experts Posting Tips Use this poster and stickers to recommend your favorite games or provide tips on particular games. You can also work with the Games Squad members who are managing the forums, and you can post pro tips for your classmates there.

Experts Teacher Tutorials Video tutorials: Create screencast videos with tips and tutorials for your favorite games, to share with teachers. Event experts: At events like Speed Game Sharing and the Teacher Q&A, you can share your expertise in the games.

Recognizing Star Players Multiplayer tournaments Forums contests Forums game design challenges Most active on the forums Other superstars Hand out certificates and ribbons to students who excel with the games or who win challenges. Here are some ideas for who you could feature on the Weekly Winners poster: We just talked about multiplayer tournaments that you can run with your classmates. You could feature the winners using this poster. You could also run remote multiplayer tournaments or matches: Pick a date and time for everyone to log into StoryCards, MasterSwords, TyrAnt or Mlob Rule at home and play each other. Then announce the winner using this poster. Again, there will be contests and game design challenges on the forums. You could use this poster to feature those winners. Or just use this poster to congratulate your classmates who have been the most active on the forums. We’ll be posting announcements on a regular basis where we feature those students, and you could refer to those announcements. As you go along, I’m sure you’ll discover other people you think are worthy of featuring through these posters. Maybe people you notice helping their classmates get through tricky parts of the games, for example. Or people who are really encouraging of their classmates.

Q&A If you still have time in the session, we’d encourage you to let students start playing the games!
