What is University High? Accelerated program – Take the most rigorous courses at Sunrise Choose endorsement area - Languages/History or Math/Science & STEM Earn both high school and college/university credit AIM/Honors/AP classes Community service

Admission Criteria Complete data sheet by the end of the 9th grade year – Successful completion of English I H or AIM English I Successful completion of AIM Chemistry Grades: 3.25 or better, C’s or better

FAQ’s   How will students earn college credits and where will college classes be located? dual enrollment, AP testing Classes taken on a college campus Partnership with GCU for STEM courses Who pays for college credits? At this point, the student’s family will be responsible for all costs associated with college tuition and fees. Tuition scholarships are available for qualified GCU STEM scholars.

University High Endorsement Requirements 28 credits 3.25 cumulative GPA (as of December of the graduation year) 1 credit (120 hours) of community service Complete a minimum of 6 AP exams Earn a minimum of 30 college credits (up to 32 credits possible through GCU STEM Scholars Program) Meet all PUSD graduation requirements in addition to completing the following courses:

Grade Point Average UH Students are required to maintain a 3.25 GPA Students who do not have a 3.25 at graduation will not receive the diploma endorsement STEM students below a 3.25 will no longer qualify for free tuition

College Credit Options Complete College Application Process ASSET Placement Test Dual enrollment costs – Approx. $130- $180 based on credit hours All University High students must take at least 6 AP exams AP tests are given in May each year Currently AP tests cost $93 per test Dates and fees are set by the College Board Dual Enrollment Advanced Placement

Scholarships & Financial Assistance It’s for everyone going to any school Institution (given by schools) Merit Based (GPA, Class Rank, Test Scores) Other Private Criteria based www.peoriaud.k12.az.us/guidance/pages

Community Service Outside school time, off campus, Volunteer for a Non- Profit Organization, 60 hours = ½ credit Minimum of 120 hrs / 1 credit is required prior to graduation Packets available in guidance (new packet for each 60 hours). Requirements – Non-profit & not on our campus Supervised by non-relative Time log Journal Essay Supervisor’s evaluation.

Dropping University High   Any student who does not complete the UH requirements or maintain the GPA, will not receive the UH endorsement The student is responsible for meeting all UH requirements & submitting appropriate documentation prior to graduation STEM Scholars have the option of free GCU dual enrollment courses Students who drop UH must notify their counselor with parent approval

GRAND CANYON UNIVERSITY STEM Scholars program Designed to expose students to STEM careers & prepare them to enter STEM degree programs Qualified students earn up to 32 college credits tuition free Courses offered at the high school and on GCU’s campus in the summer. Available to students who complete their sophomore year 3.25 GPA Take UH required courses Demonstrate excellence in math/science or English/social studies GCU will accept all credits earned with a passing grade

Sample STEM Scholars Pathway Summer following Sophomore year: Attend a 4 credit course on GCU’s campus. Summer of 2016: Psychology Junior year: Earn up to 12 credits at Sunrise Mountain through GCU dual enrollment. College Algebra and/or Pre-calculus, AP Chemistry or AP Biology Summer following Junior year:   Attend a 4 credit course on GCU’s campus. Summer of 2017: TBD Senior year: Earn up to 12 credits at Sunrise Mountain through GCU dual enrollment. AP Comp & Lit, Pre-calculus or Calculus, AP Chemistry or AP Biology
