Transcript The most important element in the college application process Transcript includes: Coursework, Grades, GPA and Class Rank GPA (average of grades in all courses) Strength of schedule Adding Rigor: Going beyond graduation requirements, continuing in World Languages and AP coursework SAT or ACT test scores Essay Teacher recommendation

5 Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
WHS offers 18 different AP courses in the following curriculum areas: English, Math, Science, Social Science, World Language, Art and Music Benefits include: Challenging curriculum College level coursework Exploring academic interests Potential to earn college credit in high school Bonus point on GPA Strength of schedule

AP Forecasting completed through Family Link Balance vs. rigor Pre-loaded into online Forecasting in April

7 Forecasting Forecasting completed through Family Link Summer School
Counselors will visit English classes April 3– April 7 Parents receive an with student’s forecasting selections Students can make changes online until April 14 Students and parents can see forecasted courses through Family Link after April 14, but will need to see their school counselor to make changes before the end of the school year Summer School Tentatively, June 22 - July 14 Summer School registration opens March 20 Students can access schedules in mid-August Fall registration information on WHS website

Dual credit program with Clackamas Community College Opportunity for high school students to earn community college credit for approved college-level classes Spanish III, IV French III, IV Pre-Calculus AP English 12 Graphic Arts AP Studio Art Art IV Students must register with CCC for the college credit and will receive the grade earned in the class (A-F)

11 Grade Point Average (GPA)
How to calculate a GPA: Each letter grade is worth certain points and AP courses of C or better receive a bonus point: Grade GPA AP A 4.0 5.0 B 3.0 C 2.0 D 1.0 F

12 Grade Point Average (GPA)
To calculate, assign the correct number to the letter grade you earned, add all of the grades together and divide by the number of classes you took: Course Grade GPA English 10 B 3.0 Adv. Oregon Promise A new state program that can help pay for community college. Student will only pay $50 per term, so essentially FREE Who is eligible? 2016 Oregon high school graduates Graduates who have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher Graduates who have been an Oregon resident for at least 12 months prior to enrolling in college Graduates who enroll in Oregon community college within 6 months of high school graduation

‘D’ Policy Oregon Public Universities do not accept grades lower than a “C-” in required academic courses Students with “D’s” or lower in these courses will be required to make up the credit before applying to an Oregon Public University See your counselor about credit recovery options

16 College Admission Requirements
Colleges and universities consider the courses taken in 9th, 10th and 11th grade and the grades earned in those courses and the strength of senior schedule Requirements include: English- 4 years Math- 3-4 years Science- 3-4 years (2 years must be lab science) Social Studies- 3-4 years World Language- 2-4 years of same language University of California System also requires one year of the same visual or performing arts and one year of World History

17 Standardized Testing Schedule
Sophomore Year PSAT in October AP Exams Junior Year Fall PSAT in October (National Merit qualifying exam) Students must register with bookkeeper Junior Year Spring OAKS SAT or ACT SAT Subject Tests

Review PSAT Scores Create CollegeBoard account and link PSAT scores with Khan Academy (Demo) Khan Academy is a free personalized learning resource Work through Khan Academy on personalized test prep Attend Khan Lab Week: February during lunch in the Forum Room
