Huntsville Seeks to Grow Student Enrollments in Advanced Placement Courses Growing the AP program requires that our district prepare students for college level AP courses through honors courses in grades six through ten. A+ College Ready partners with the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) to provide Laying the Foundation training and resources. LTF provides twelve modules in each content area. Math, science and English teachers receive online classroom-ready lessons, training to increase rigor and student engagement, support from content directors, and a focus on STEM education. In 2013-14 we have trained 178 teachers on use of the LTF modules. In addition, 242 teachers have participated in LTF mini sessions through vertical team meetings.

Huntsville Seeks to Grow Student Enrollments in Advanced Placement Courses Huntsville City Schools has a goal of increasing the number of students enrolled in Advanced Placement courses yearly. Partnering with A+ College Ready provides our students and teachers with resources to grow AP enrollment and to increase qualifying scores. A+ College Ready provides resources such as teacher training, Saturday prep sessions for students, materials/supplies, student incentives and teacher incentives. The growth plan for each school is based on the use of student data to set goals based on increasing student participation in AP and increasing capacity of students to earn qualifying scores.

In 2012-13 Huntsville Sought Admission of Butler and Johnson High Schools to the Advanced Placement Program, A+ College Ready In 2011-12, Huntsville City Schools had five high schools participating in A+ College Ready: Columbia, Grissom, Huntsville, Lee and New Century. Johnson and Butler had been in A+ College Ready prior to 2011, but under previous leadership, these schools left the program. Leaving the A+ College Ready program meant that these two schools did not have the resources offered through the program, such as student and teacher incentives. The district goal is to have all schools actively participating in A+ College Ready. Johnson and Butler applied to enter A+ College Ready again in 2012-13 and were accepted. Both schools now have full access to the A+ College Ready resources.
