How to Do a Book Talk

What is a Book Talk? A Book Talk is telling someone about a book so that he or she will want to read it. It is like you are making a short commercial for the book.

Steps to making a Book Talk Pick a book that you really like A LOT Read it from the beginning to the end, even if you have already read it Think about how you could tell someone about the book in an interesting way Tell them just enough about the story to make them want to read the book DO NOT tell how the story ends

Steps making a Book Talk Have your parents help you write down a few sentences telling about the main character and the problem he or she faces in the story Create a catchy beginning. Think about your first line. Ask your audience a question. Find a fun way to end your book talk You could use a prop, dress up, or talk like the main character Remember to smile!

Tips for your Book Talk Be like Goldilocks, not too long, not too short, but just right. It should be 60 seconds or less. Have someone video you doing the book talk, you may have to do it several times to get it right. Show the cover of the book. Tell the title and author of the book. Do NOT say your name in the video. You can have your parents help you include things like music in the background or pictures of the book

The Winner from each school will win a GIFTCARD! Have your parents email your video to beslibrary@boazk12.org
