Madame C.J. Walker- African American Female Entrepreneur and philanthropist She was regarded as the first female self made millionaire in America. Created and marketed Black Hair Care products. Created jobs for more than 1,000 women and was a mentor to entrepreneurs around the world.

Dr. Vivien Thomas Self taught doctor was an African-American surgical technician who along with world renown White heart surgeon Alfred Blalock developed the procedures used to treat blue baby syndrome in the 1940s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmiRohBSy5Y Without any education past high school, Thomas rose above poverty and racism to become a cardiac surgery pioneer and a teacher of operative techniques to many of the country's most prominent surgeons.
