3 Biography On October 17, 1956, Mae Jemison was born. She was the first African American Woman in space. In 1977, she graduated from Stanford University with a degree in chemical engineering and African- American studies. Dr. Jemison founded the International Science Camp in Chicago in1994. Jemison loved science growing up, but she also loved the arts.

4 Biography Jemison obtained her doctor of medicine degree in 1981 from Cornell Medical College. She was accepted into NASA astronaut program in 1987. Mae Jemison was the first African-American woman to enter space when she served on the crew of the space Shuttle Endeavor in September of 1992.

5 The rocket represents that she went into outer space.

6 Supporting Information Mae Jemison deserved to be on a dollar coin. The first reason is she was the first African-American woman to go out of space. The second reason is that Mae Jemison said it do not care if only white, brown, and black people can go to out of space too. The last reason is Mae Jemison is intelligent, adventurous, and responsible to go out of space.
