Warm Colors - remind of the sun and warmth Warm Colors - remind of the sun and warmth. Color schemes – red, yellow, and orange. Georgia O’Keeffe

Students will be able to produce a 8 inch color wheel that contains primary, secondary, and intermediate colors plus tints and shades of each. Dynamic Color Wheel

Dynamic Color Wheel: Students will gather a better understanding of the following: Color- What the eyes see when light is reflected off an object. Hue- The name of a color, such as red, blue, or yellow. Value – The lightness or darkness of a hue. Intensity – The brightness or dullness of a hue.

Dynamic Color Wheel Monochromatic Color Scheme Mono-One; Chroma-Color A color scheme that uses one color with tints and shades of that color.

Dynamic Color Wheel: Tints and shades Tint: Mixing a pure hue with white Shade: Mixing black into a pure hue.

Dynamic Color Wheel Analogous colors - are any three colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel

Dynamic Color Wheel Complementary Colors - A color scheme that uses two colors that are opposite from one another on the color wheel.

Dynamic Color Wheel Procedure: Each table will be given a circle template and wedge template Place circle template over the center and draw the circle on the paper. Before removing the template mark the wedge sections. Use the marks on the paper and draw a line to the opposite side of the wedge (there should be a total of 12 sections)

Before you start working on your Monochromatic Painting… *You will use the RIGHT side of your paper (next to the color wheel ) to create a 7 step value color scale. (The TRUE HUE will be in the middle) *Below it, you will create a Gradient Color Scale. You place your TRUE HUE first in the middle then make sure that your values gradually change. Once you are done with both, you will start sketching out ideas for your painting in your sketchbook. It can be an abstract painting or you can work from a photo or photos from home.

Dynamic Color Wheel On a separate paper, trace the wedge section three times. You will design 3 distinct wedges with 3 interesting sections(hue, shade, and tint) One wedge design will be organic One wedge design will be geometric One wedge design must incorporate your initials

Dynamic color wheel Trace your favorite wedge design onto tracing paper with ebony pencil

Dynamic Color Wheel Transfer the designed wedge onto each of the 12 sections

Small piece of wax paper for your paint. You only need one small pump of black paint, white paint, and of the color you are working with at the time. Supplies needed: One small brush Small piece of wax paper for your paint. Cup of water to RINSE your brush as you work. Small piece of paper towel to dry your brush as you work.

EX. Equal amount of RED + Equal amount of BLUE = (TRUE) VIOLET Remember that in order to get accurate looking secondary colors you must mix equal amounts of your primary colors. EX. Equal amount of RED + Equal amount of BLUE = (TRUE) VIOLET Equal amount of RED + Equal amount of YELLOW = (TRUE) ORANGE Equal amount of YELLOW + Equal amount of BLUE = (TRUE) GREEN

Dynamic Color Wheel Mix paints for one hue at a time, using only what you need for one class period Students will receive only primary plus black and white paint Using tempera paint, fill one wedge area with a hue, a tint, and shade
