Applying For Jobs The Process: Applying for a job can usually be a convoluted process. First step is to submit your job application and cover letter. When you submit your resume with these items, make sure your resume is up to date with all relevant information. Now a cover letter may be optional, but we highly recommend that you submit one with your application. If and when you are selected for an interview, you’ll talk to your employer or hiring manager about questions that will all be relevant to your hopefully, upcoming job. If this all goes well, you will receive a job offer then you can choose to accept or decline. Possible Challenges: Job searching can be stressful if you don’t have a plan. Online applications will rarely be enough; you can send more than one, and ages will pass before you get a call. The first step for a successful job search is to make a list of your interests, goals, values, skills, and accomplishments. This helps you to sell yourself as a unique individual with talents, it is important to be able to back up your claims. Keep in mind that everyone else will be applying the same way. If you don’t have any friends who can help you get in somewhere, then look for the companies in your city and do some research to find out how your skills match what they need. You’ll need to know who’s in charge of contracting new employees, then pay him/her a visit. Even if they are not looking for applicants at the time, you might get lucky and arrive at precisely the right moment. Small application form for a job at video game retailer GameStop. Just an example of what questions will be asked.

Job Information Template of what your C.V. should look like Information Retrieval: As far as information retrieval goes, we’d highly recommend utilizing the internet to find information that you will need to successfully find a job. We’d also recommend that you read this leaflet, as informing you about employability is what this whole thing is about. You could also ask friends, previous employers if you have any and maybe even requesting assistance from the company who you are trying to be employed by. Storing Completed Forms: Completed forms should always be stored on a hard-drive with a back-up somewhere, and physical copies should be stored in a folder with all other information, numbered and in order. This makes it much easier and efficient to find relevant information while at work or completing work elsewhere. Like we stated before, always keep a back-up of important documents. This helps you as well as making you more reliable and flexible as an employee. Template of what your C.V. should look like
