Begin with the End in Mind Steven Covey, Habit 2 What is Engineering byDesign™ What is the EbD™ Network? What is eTIDEonline? Where can I find the EbD™ Resources? What are the 9 Defining Features of Standards-based Programs that deliver Technological Literacy How can I get this going in South Carolina? International Technology Education Association

We Have a Very Tough Job! Currently there is not a standard curricula being implemented nationwide Supervisors find that teachers (generally) are teaching only to their expertise – not the curriculum Can we tell Boards of Education if students are becoming technologically literate? Can we explain the value-added to the business and academic community? International Technology Education Association

So Where Do WE Start ??! We must standardize what is taught and maintain teacher flexibility Districts are provided quality, ongoing Professional Development Assess a student’s ability to be technologically literate, and to Use the assessments to inform instruction and increase student achievement in STEM International Technology Education Association

Do We Teach engineering or Engineering? engineering – little “e” – used as a verb to teach all students to think or learn to engineer or use engineering concepts Engineering – big “E” – used as a noun prepare students to be Engineers – career oriented International Technology Education Association

F Decisions to develop and use technologies often put environmental and economic concerns in direct competition with one another. 3 2 G Humans can devise technologies to conserve water, soil, and energy through such techniques as reusing, reducing and recycling. H When new technologies are developed to reduce the use of resources, considerations of trade-offs are important. I With the aid of technology, various aspects of the environment can be monitored to provide information for decision-making. 9/S21/L 33/J L Decisions regarding the implementation of technologies involve the weighing of trade-offs between predicted positive and negative effects on the environment. 9/S21/L 33/J, 62/H International Technology Education Association
