The Incredible Dr. Suess 2 What is the best summary of this selection?   A One of the most successful author illustrators of all time was Dr. Seuss. He wrote fun books that used a small number of words. “To Think that I Saw It on Mulberry Street” was his first book about the street he grew up on. “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” was Dr. Seuss’s last book. B Dr. Seuss lived an interesting life. When he was young, he loved reading books. His early art teacher told him that he was not a good artist. Seuss proved her wrong. He grew up and made a living by selling his art. He received awards for his amazing illustrations. C The talented Dr. Seuss got his start after reading an article that said children’s books were boring. He decided to write books that children would enjoy. He wrote about 50 books before he died in 1991. Today, children still love to read his funny books. D Dr. Seuss was a successful author and illustrator of children’s books. He was a good student who loved to read and draw. After college, he settled down with his wife and began using his artwork to make a living. Dr. Seuss wrote books and won awards before passing away in 1991. 1

A park in Florida was named after him. Seuss Landing has rides that come from the ideas in his books. The carousel has dog-a-lopes and elephant birds. C Dr. Seuss was a famous author illustrator who delighted children with his books. Seuss Landing is a park with rides based on ideas from his books. Some people remember Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a special lunch of green eggs and ham. D March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Some people celebrate it by making a tasty lunch of green eggs and ham. The recipe calls for eggs, butter, green food coloring, and ham. Crack the eggs and mix in the food coloring, but don’t break the yellow of the eggs. 2
