Theodore Geisel was born March 2, When he was a boy his mother said rhymes to get him to sleep.

3 He grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts.

4 The pictures in his book remind us of the town where he grew up.

6 When he was in college he was editor of Dartmouth’s humor Magazine.

7 During the first years he worked he drew cartoons for newspapers and made advertisements.

8 His first children’s book was And To Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street. He had a hard time finding someone to publish it. He was rejected 27 times before he found a publisher.

He married Helen Palmer. After she died, he married Audrey Stone, who is still alive. He never had any children of his own. His wife said he was a little afraid of children. He never knew what they would do next.
