Italy of recycling The Sustainable Development Foundation, chaired by Edo Ronchi, is a not-for -profit organization born by will of companies, business associations and sustainability experts, in order to encourage the development into the field of green economy in Italy. Since 2010, the Foundation, in collaboration with FISE UNIRE, cares and publishes Annual Report "Italy of recycling", with sponsorship of the Ministries of the Environment, Economic Development and ISPRA.

The aim of Report The report aims to provide an updated overview: on the dynamics of the European and international markets for recycled materials; on trends underway in Italy (collected waste, recycled waste in Italy, imported/exported waste, economic value of recycled waste), and on the problems and potential of the sectors. Each year, the report also offers an international study and a separate chapter on the technologies and innovative management.

An expression of the whole Italian recycling sector The Report is an expression of the whole Italian recycling sector thanks to the involvement of all the recycling chains in the drafting. For the editing are also organized working groups to study specific issues that ensuring a thorough analysis of the problems of the sector. These working groups promote common synergies, more knowledge, dissemination of good practices through the collaboration between the actors operating in the sectors and between different sectors of recycling,

Focus on potential of italian recycling business Packaging In 2014 the packaging recycling is stable: 7.8 Mt (66% compared to put in market). Rubber and end of life tyres (ELT) The sector is stable. In 2014 the second raw materials recovered by ELT: 129 kt (100 kt of rubber, 28 kt of steel and 663 t of texiles). It is necessary to improve the second raw materials markets. Organic Waste The separate collection is growing (5.7 Mt, +9.5% compared to 2013). In 2014 the composting plants produced about 1.3 Mt of organic fertilisers. Source: Italy of recycling 2015

Focus on potential of italian recycling business Batteries and accumulators Separate collection of portable batteries and accumulators in 2014: 9.585 t, 39% compared to put in market (+7% compared to 2013). The collection rates (25% by 26 September 2012) is reached. Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Separate collection increases, in 2014: 232 kt, 30% compared to put in market (+3% copared to 2013). The average per capita is 3.8 kg. To be in line with the separate collection rate provided by the WAEE Directive have to become 7.5 by 2016 and about 10 kg/inhabitant by 2019. Source: Italy of recycling 2015

Focus on potential of italian recycling business Construction and demolition waste In 2013, the non-hazardous waste from C&D sector produced is 48 Mt (-7% compared to 2012). Problem: is not easy to calculate the recycling rate due to lack of data. End of life vehicles (ELV) The recycling rate in 2012 amounted to 80.8%, down from the previous year (target 2015: 85%). The recovery rate for 2012 is 82.3% (target 2015: 95%) Source: Italy of recycling 2015
