How much can you fit perfectly into a box?

VOLUME The number of cubes that you count is called the VOLUME of your box. So, what do you think VOLUME means?

*Always measured in units cubed (u3) VOLUME VOLUME is the amount of liquid or solid that will FILL a 3-Dimensional object! *Always measured in units cubed (u3)

QUACK, I mean quick, DEFINITION 3-Dimensional objects are NOT FLAT. They have 3 measurements: Length Width Height

RECTANGULAR PRISM Today we are finding the volume of 3-D objects called RECTANGULAR PRISMS, which are solid figures that have six faces that are all rectangles. Opposite faces are congruent and parallel.

VOLUME OF A RECTANGULAR PRISM So, what if we wanted to find the volume of this classroom?

Luckily, we have a FORMULA for that! Volume = length × width × height

LET’S FIND THE VOLUME OF THIS RECTANGULAR PRISM mm3 LET’S FIND THE VOLUME OF THIS RECTANGULAR PRISM 3 mm 2 mm 12 mm V = l × w × h V = 12 × 2 × 3 V = 72 mm3 V = 24 × 3

FIND THE VOLUME OF THIS RECTANGULAR PRISM: V = l × w × h V = 4 × 3 × 10 V = 120 in3 V = 12 × 10

FIND THE VOLUME OF THIS RECTANGULAR PRISM: 5 cm 5 cm 5 cm V = l × w × h V = 5 × 5 × 5 V = 25 × 5 V = 125 cm3

A cereal box has a length of 8 inches, a width of 1 A cereal box has a length of 8 inches, a width of 1.75 inches, and a height of 12.125 inches? How much cereal will the box hold? V = 8 × 1.75 × 12.125 V = l × w × h V = 14 × 12.125 V = 169.75 in3

Aggie’s bathroom has a tub in the shape of a rectangular prism with a length of 1.5 meters, a width of 0.5 meter, and a height of 0.4 meter. How many cubic meters of water can it hold? V = l × w × h V = 1.5 × 0.5 × 0.4 V = 0.3 m3 V = 0.75 × 0.4

FIND THE VOLUME OF THIS RECTANGULAR PRISM: V = l × w × h V = 11 × 9 × 40 40 in V = 3,960 in3 V = 99 × 40 9 in

FIND THE VOLUME OF THIS RECTANGULAR PRISM: V = l × w × h

Trailers that travel on the road behind trucks are rectangular prisms Trailers that travel on the road behind trucks are rectangular prisms. A typical height for the inside of these trailers is 108 in. If the trailer is 8 ft wide and 20 ft long, what is the volume of the trailer?

An aquarium shaped like a rectangular prism has a length of 120 cm, a width of 60 cm, and a height of 100 cm. How much water is needed to fill the aquarium?

One last question: A rectangular prism has a length of 2 in, a height of 5 in, and a width of 3 in. What is the volume of this rectangular prism?
