The GEO-GSNL initiative An international partnership aiming to improve, through an Open Science approach, monitoring and research on seismic/volcanic interest areas called Supersites, providing better scientific information support for DRR. Wicks USGS All Supersites are managed by institutions which have a formal mandate for providing scientific support to local DRM agencies

How Supersites contribute to DRM Satellite data and ground data are made available by the CEOS and by local monitoring agencies Research is carried out by the international scientific community and new science is openly shared within the community A consensus process driven by the Supersite Coordinator is used to generate synthetic scientific information products Local decision makers receive the scientific reports from the Supersite Coordinator Decisions are taken based on these products, to support Risk Prevention/Mitigation or Emergency management

EO data Only two space agencies directly provide EO data through web services: DLR and ESA CSK and Radarsat (in the future also Pleiades/SPOT5) data are presently accessed offline, but in some cases they are provided online through community platforms as the ESA GEP or the UNAVCO SSARA

In situ data Seismological data (waveforms, earthquake locations, etc.) are provided as web services by IRIS, for most Supersites GNSS data are provided as web services by UNAVCO GSAC for some Supersites, or offline. Some Supersites provide access to several other datasets but not through web services
