2 Objective of Geohazard initiative Formal Requirement: task DI-09-01 (Supersites) towards GEO for the new 2009-11 GEO workplan: … is to respond to the scientific and operational geospatial information needs for the prediction and monitoring of geological hazards, namely earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes and land instability. 4 What is a “Super Site”? stimulating access to data regionally to “Geohazards Natural Laboratory” : …. facilitating access to data over a certain number of regional areas. In order to be eligible as a “Supersite” a regional area should meet at least one of the following criteria: populations and elements are exposed to geological threats an event is expected to occur in the near future, or a slow process is already ongoing it should be an appropriate place to stimulate basic geohazard research (earthquakes hazards, landslides, volcanoes, hydro-geological processes) and relative sea level rise

8  1 mission across 3 satellites Combination of: EOLI Quicklooks at ESA catalogue Virtual Archive; SAR products stored Close to the user (Europe, North America, Asia) Geohazard “Super Site” Trial Example of Cloud Computing Trial starts now (once Cat1 has been issued) and lasts until April 2009

9 Virtual Product Archive Download performance 12.20 PM started  download of several products in parallel 12.23 / 24 PM  download finished after 4 minutes (ESRIN office)

10 Review => to make service operational End of this year an ESA review on this service will take place Evaluation of service with following criteria: –user satisfaction –cost –GS compatibility –.....

11 Summary “Super Site” ESA SAR data are via GeoHazard Cat1 project easily and fast downloadable using EOLI. The “Super User” Archive has very well been initialized based on users have contribution. ESA has provided the infrastructure and is the data distributor. Trial starts now and ends April 2009  feedback and recommendations are important to evaluate and tune the “Super Site” service.
