Verification Process At most institutions, the verification process must be completed before financial aid can be awarded including most of our state funded programs. Some institutions may give the student the option of not completing the verification process if they ONLY wish to receive Tennessee Lottery HOPE Scholarship.

Documentation To verify the elements, you may be asked for the following documents; however, this is not a complete list. Some documents requested will be based on a family’s individual case. The prior year tax transcripts for both parent and student, if the student is dependent OR preferably, use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool from your FAFSA Verification Worksheet W-2s showing wages (parent and student if the student is dependent) Statement of child support paid Verification of Net Worth Documentation of Food Stamps/SNAP Benefit

Deadlines Delays in sending documentation may result in student’s not having their financial aid by the time that fees must be paid each semester Tennessee Promise students selected for verification must submit all requested documentation by August 1 Deadlines may vary from one institution to another one During peak processing times, allow extra time for processing the verification documents
